Around Joshua
Around Joshua is a Canadian alternative rock band. Based in Quebec, the quartet is made up of Dave Talbo on guitar and vocals, Mathieu Fortin on keyboards, David Leclerc on bass and Jeff Houde on drums.
2025 will see Around Joshua release their third album, "Something New". It follows Cassiopeiae Noks, then The Trees Are Singing (2019), which was produced by Mike Fraser (Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters…) and mastered at Sterling Sound in New York by Greg Calbi (David Bowie, The Strokes, Interpol). It also enjoyed very promising critical success, ranking 20th in The 21 Best Canadian artist albums of 2019. This time, it's the essential British producer Danton Supple (Coldplay, Morrissey, Starsailor, Patti Smith) who is producing this third record.
From the intoxicating first single "Diary Song" and its masterful rhythm, to the luminous "Gone for the Sun," by way of "Dreambox" and its sumptuous melodic flights reminiscent of certain Radiohead ballads, Around Joshua impresses with its skillful alternation between tension and calm.
There's a touch of Interpol in "Maybe," with its terribly catchy way of building the choruses, its keyboards flirting with a blazing new wave sound. "Summer Days" and its hypnotic melody act like an emotional metronome, capturing something intimate within us. The Canadian band's musical palette could be said to sit somewhere between rock and muscular pop, between uninhibited britpop and nervy indie rock — but we'll refrain from pinning any one reductive label on the group's sound, so beautifully do the moods blend throughout the record.
Recorded at Radicart studio in Quebec, mixed in London within the legendary walls of Strongroom Studios, then mastered by John Davies at Metropolis Studios, also in London, the album will be passionately championed on Canadian and European stages. Live performances that should win over audiences completely, just as listeners are won over by "Just One of Those," with its devastating riff and melody that clings to you like a second skin.
